Bibhu Mohapatra Spring/Summer 2020
“With this collection I celebrate the American beauty and it’s diverse identity of strength, courage and originality” declared the designer. Bibhu Mohapatra Spring/Summer 2020 collection was inspired by the collaboration between James Baldwin and Richard Avedon for their 1963 book, “Nothing Personal”. The 39 iconic looks were shown on the runway at Spring Street Gallery on Wednesday afternoon, September 10th in downtown Manhattan.
The day ensembles made power statements mixing luxury with casual namely in a polished black alligator jacket paired with a blue radzimere jumpsuit and a mango crepe top with sexy draped sleeves with supima denim trousers.
The constructed pantsuits and dress suits in crepe used opulent amounts of fabric in delicious colors.
The cocktail sheaths are architectural and sensual designs with flirting glimpses of body thorough sheer panels or handkerchief and pleated hems. As the models floated by seductively in light as air silk georgette the effect was breathtaking.
Each dress had a unique delightful detail of crystal medallions or black paradise floral embroidery. Many ensembles are fashionably paired with dusters of white or black swan feathers or natural ranch mink.
The evening gowns are works of artfully draped shapes in exquisite color and elegant textures with glam silver filigree or pinstripe embroidery.
The collection was complimented by fashion accessories of Chelsea Paris chasseures, sunnies from Morgenthal Fredericks and Judith Leiber Couture handbags and belts.
The biggest applause came for the charming Bibhu Mohapatra who took his finale bow after a magnificent collection.
