Bibhu Mohapatra NYFW Fall/Winter 2020
“I will become a figment of your imagination” wrote poet Amrita Pritam in “Pinjar”. On the 11th of February. afternoon, on Bibhu Mohapatra showed his ravishing Fall/ Winter 2020 collection at Spring Studios in Manhattan. Bibhu’s modern designs celebrated the history of strong and resilient women in Indian culture. Models floated down the runway like supernatural goddesses in designs infused with traditional Indian crafts from the world of textiles and arts along with modern architectural silhouettes, bold color and texture.
The collection was lush with embroidered embellishments, intricate surface treatments, custom laces, metallic foiled tulle, lux cashmeres and velvets. Passionate about conscious fashion, Bibhu used two sustainable organic cotton fabrics sourced in partnership with Sadhguru’s Isha foundation.
Showstoppers from a stellar collection of 40 looks were the alabaster alligator band heals with rani pink cashmere turtleneck, henna crepe Amrita gown with feathered embroidered cape, Jaipur pink tulle dress with silver sequined pipli embroidery and Indian rose silver foiled tulle goddess dress. The hushed New York Fashion Week crowd was moved to applause for several original silhouettes.
The hair and makeup executed by Joseph DiMaggio and Sil Brunisma seductive. used strokes of jewel colors in the theme of the collection. The use of colorful feather pieces in the hair and accessories by Ranjana Khan. was a touch of. posh. Mannequins wore on. their feet chausseures by luxury brand Mia Becar and in their hands Strathberry handbags.
The models were adorned in. Mohapatra’s timeless jewelry designs. The debut of a collaboration. with luxury jewelry designers Ketan and Jatin Choski of Narayan Jewellers for Forevermark.
To kick off their milestone 80th year in business, Narayan Jewellers inspired by Mohapatra’s designs, as well as natural elements such as flowers, dew drops, the sun, the moon, and stars created. “The Empress Collection”. The jewelry collection of cocktail rings and bracelets, chandelier earrings, ear climbers, ear jackets and ear boulders are rare and responsibly sourced diamonds in 18 karat white and rose gold.
